Matins

Matins is the Western term for the Orthodox Orthros (already defined). The term is used in English-language Orthodox contexts, particularly in jurisdictions influenced by Western liturgical vocabulary. The content is identical to Orthros. In Russian practice the service is called Utrenya; in Greek, Orthros; in English, Matins or Morning Prayer. The service structure — Six Psalms, litany, kathismata, canon, Praises, Great Doxology — is the same regardless of the name.
