Hours
The canonical prayer hours — the fixed times of daily prayer that sanctify each part of the day.
The Hours are brief prayer services marking the transitions of the day: the First Hour (6 AM, dawn and Christ's trial before Pilate), Third Hour (9 AM, the descent of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost), Sixth Hour (noon, the Crucifixion), Ninth Hour (3 PM, the death of Christ). Each Hour consists of fixed psalms, a troparion, a kontakion, and prayers. Together with Vespers, Compline, Midnight Office, and Orthros they form the full cycle of daily prayer.
