Exaposteilarion
The hymn of light — a brief stanza sung at Orthros after the canon, near the dismissal.
The exaposteilarion (from exapostello, to send forth) is the 'dismissal of light' sung at Orthros after the canon, just before the laudatory stanzas. It is brief — typically a single stanza — and expresses the theological content of the feast in concentrated form. On Sundays it always concerns the Resurrection: 'The disciples were afraid when the angel said to them at the tomb: Stay not weeping; go, tell the disciples Christ is risen.'
