Artos
Bread — specifically the large leavened loaf blessed at Pascha and carried in procession through Bright Week.
The artos is the large round leavened loaf bearing the image of the cross or the Resurrection, blessed at the Paschal Liturgy and carried in procession during Bright Week (the week following Pascha). On Bright Saturday it is broken and distributed to the faithful, in memory of Christ's resurrection appearances 'in the breaking of bread.' The artos is not the eucharistic bread but a blessed bread recalling the resurrection appearances.
