Artoklasia
The blessing of five loaves at All-Night Vigil — recalling the feeding of the five thousand and anticipating the eschatological banquet.
Artoklasia (bread-breaking) is the rite at the Liti during All-Night Vigil on feast days. The priest blesses five loaves, wheat, wine, and oil — the five loaves recalling Christ's miracle. After the blessing, portions are distributed. The rite connects the Vigil's anticipation of the feast with the eucharistic meal, and the five loaves with the eschatological banquet of the Kingdom.
