Theotokion

Already defined. Additional note: within the system of theotokia, several sub-types exist. The stavrotheotokion (cross-theotokion) commemorates the Theotokos standing at the foot of the Cross, specifically sung on Wednesdays and Fridays. The dogmatikon (already defined) summarizes Incarnational theology. The katavasion theotokion closes the Ode of the Theotokos (ninth ode) in the canon. The variety of forms reflects the centrality of the Theotokos as the theological lens through which the Church views every mystery of salvation.
