Sunday

Sunday (Kyriake, the Lord's Day) is the first day of the week and the eighth day — the day beyond the seven days of the old creation, the day of the new creation inaugurated by the Resurrection. Every Sunday is a Paschal celebration: a weekly Pascha, a weekly encounter with the Risen Christ in the Eucharist. Nicaea I prescribed that prayers on Sunday be made standing, not kneeling — standing is the posture of those who have risen with Christ.
