Resurrection Appearances
Christ's appearances after the Resurrection — the foundation of apostolic witness.
The resurrection appearances (Matthew 28, Mark 16, Luke 24, John 20-21, 1 Corinthians 15:3-8) are Christ's appearances to his disciples after his Resurrection, constituting the foundation of apostolic witness. Orthodox theology insists these were genuine bodily encounters with the risen Christ — not visions, not subjective experiences, but real encounters with the same Jesus who was crucified, now in a glorified state. St. Paul's list in 1 Corinthians 15 includes an appearance to 'more than five hundred brothers at one time' — the breadth of testimony guaranteeing the objectivity of the event.
