Passion Week

The final week of Holy Week — Holy Monday through Holy Saturday — the heart of the liturgical year.

Passion Week (Hebdomas tou Pathous) encompasses Holy Monday through Holy Saturday — the most intense liturgical week of the year. Each day commemorates events of Christ's final days: Holy Monday (the fig tree, the expulsion of merchants), Holy Tuesday (the Last Discourse), Holy Wednesday (the anointing at Bethany, the betrayal of Judas), Holy Thursday (the Mystical Supper, Gethsemane, the arrest), Holy Friday (the Crucifixion), Holy Saturday (the tomb, the descent to Hades). The liturgical services multiply and deepen in intensity toward Pascha.
