Pantocrator

Almighty — the title of Christ as ruler of all creation; the central icon of the dome.

Pantocrator (all-ruling, Almighty) is one of the primary titles of Christ in Orthodox theological and liturgical usage. The Christ Pantocrator icon, typically depicted in the dome of the church, presides over the congregation from above — holding the Gospel book and blessing. The Pantocrator icon establishes the entire theological program of the church building: the dome is heaven, the altar is the heavenly sanctuary, and the congregation stands on earth in the presence of the Almighty who became flesh.
