Liturgical Year
The cycle of feasts, fasts, and commemorations through which the Church sanctifies time.
The liturgical year of the Orthodox Church is the complete annual cycle of feasts, fasts, saints' commemorations, and ordinary seasons that organizes the Church's worship. It begins on September 1 (the Indiction, the Byzantine new year) and is structured around two fixed cycles (based on the calendar date) and one moveable cycle (based on the date of Pascha). The entire year is a participation in the life of Christ: Advent, Nativity, Theophany, Lent, Holy Week, Pascha, Ascension, Pentecost.
