Lectionary
The appointed Scripture readings for each day of the liturgical year — ensuring the whole New Testament is heard in course.
The lectionary is the system of appointed Scripture readings for each day and feast of the liturgical year. The Orthodox lectionary organizes the New Testament books to be read throughout the year. The Old Testament is read primarily at Vespers on vigil eves and at the Presanctified Liturgy during Great Lent. The lectionary ensures that the congregation hears the whole of the New Testament read in course over the liturgical year.
