Eikon
Image — in theological use, the human person as the image (eikon) of God; and the icon as the image of the prototype.
Eikon (image) has two primary theological uses. First: the human person is made 'according to the image (kat'eikona) of God' (Genesis 1:26) — a theological datum with profound anthropological implications. Second: the sacred icon, which images a holy person and through which honor passes to the prototype. The two uses are connected: the human person as the image of God is both the subject of iconography (saints, Christ) and the explanation of why iconography is possible — the Image (the Logos) became flesh, making his own image depictable.
