Comma Johanneum
The disputed Trinitarian verse in 1 John 5:7 — not in the Orthodox text; a later Latin interpolation.
The Comma Johanneum ('there are three that testify in heaven: the Father, the Word, and the Holy Spirit') is found in some Latin manuscripts of 1 John 5:7-8 but absent from all early Greek manuscripts and the received Orthodox text. Not cited by any Greek Father. Generally regarded by Orthodox and critical scholars as a later Latin interpolation. The Orthodox Church's Trinitarian theology does not depend on this verse; the Trinity is established by the full scope of Scripture interpreted through the tradition.
