Chrismon

The Chi-Rho — the monogram of Christ composed of the Greek letters X (Chi) and P (Rho), one of the earliest Christian symbols.

The Chrismon (from Christos, Anointed) is the Chi-Rho monogram: the first two letters of ΧΡΙΣΤΟΣ (Christos) superimposed to form a symbol used on liturgical objects, vestments, and church buildings. Emperor Constantine placed the Chrismon on the labarum (military standard) after his vision before the Battle of Milvian Bridge (312 AD). In Orthodox use, the Chrismon appears on antimensions, vestments, and liturgical vessels as a sign of dedication to Christ.
