Bosom of Abraham
The place of rest for the righteous after death — the intermediate state before the resurrection.
The 'Bosom of Abraham' (Luke 16:22-23) is the New Testament image for the intermediate state of the righteous: the place of rest and consolation where the souls of the faithful await the general resurrection. In Orthodox theology it is identified with Hades (the realm of the dead) but distinguished from Gehenna (final condemnation): it is the place of repose, not of punishment. The image expresses the intimacy of the soul with the Patriarch of Faith in the period between death and resurrection.
