Akolouthia
An ordered service — the sequence of prayers constituting any Orthodox rite.
Akolouthia means 'following' or 'sequence.' In liturgical usage it refers to any ordered set of prayers: the akolouthia of baptism, of vespers, of a saint's feast. The Divine Liturgy is itself an akolouthia — a structured procession each following from the last. The concept captures the Orthodox conviction that worship is received, not improvised.
